Access Control
ConcordFTP allows you to assign different levels of security to different users. You want to be able to place controls on all data on one hand while at the same time you want the policy to be flexible enough for each user to access the data quickly, easily, and securely. The following sections are put together to give you an idea how to accomplish the goal, they are security solutions for HIPAA compliance.
Note: HIPPA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) was enacted to establish guidelines within the health care industry to ensure the privacy of patients and the physical and technical security of their medical records.
Install ConcordFTP
Purchase a multi-user license of ConcordFTP and install it on all computers that have to access the secure server files.
Set up Account
They are several ways to set up accounts for a group of users with different levels of security.
One way is to set up an account for each user. Each account consists of user information, site information, security information, filter information, and local and FTP folders. Each user can click the assigned user account to access the servers with password.
Or you can have users with the same level of security share the same account. After setting up an account, you can specify that it be the default account with the Account Manager hidden. Each user clicks on Connect to start transferring, work, or view files.
To avoid having users accidentally change the account, you can set up password to protect the account manager and default options, clear log function, and uncheck the option to save FTP account changes.
SSL Connection
On the Site tab in Account Manager, select one of the SSL/TLS protocols for connection to the server.
Local and FTP Folders
For different types of accounts, you can set up different Local and FTP folders so that users can only access their own FTP folders. With the Local and FTP folders set up, user can access their files easily. This requires that your server account provides you with this function.
Compress with Advanced Encryption Standard (AES)
ConcordFTP provides integrated support for 256-bit Strong Encryption Standard (AES) compression. It not only provides you with high security, but also saves you transmission time and server storage space. You can download, view, open, or extract it from ConcordFTP without using any other decompression program.
Audit
ConcordFTP offers many levels of log files. You can turn on Transfer log to record all accesses to the server. You can have a new log file every n days with time stamp on each log file. For advanced level, you can set up Browse Session and Transfer Session logs to give you all FTP send and receive protocols in browse and transfer sessions. If you schedule transfer, the Schedule log shows you all activities of the Scheduler. |
