Backup Source

When you create a new backup task you need to define the source files of your backup: the collection of files and folders, registry keys, email and settings that you want to backup. This can be done in the Source tab of the backup task wizard.

You can see what you have chosen under Selected Items list. The items in your backup are organized by the main categories: Files & Folders, Registry Keys, Mails and User Settings.

To add the new items to the backup source list click on the top toolbar buttons:

Tools and then select the items you want to include in the backup by marking the check boxes next to each item: Items

The green check means that the item will be include in the backup.

You can remove any item from this list by selecting the item and then clicking the Remove button on the upper right corner.

The source items are displayed in a tree view, that shows also the original structure of that item. The actual selected item will have a colored icon, and the entire path to it will be presented in gray icons ( a gray icon represents a sub-structure that will not be entirely saved, only the parts of it, that have a colored icon ).

Titan Backup offers you the possibility to filter the files and folders selected as source of your backup: set up inclusion or exclusion masks. A mask is a predefined list of file extensions that can be used as reference in filtering the source files. You can apply an inclusion or exclusion mask to your files or define searchable mask as source of your backup.

  • inclusion masks: when you apply an inclusion mask you choose to include in the backup only the file types that are defined in the mask.
  • exclusion masks: when you apply an exclusion mask you choose to backup all the source files except the file types defined in the mask.

To apply an inclusion/exclusion mask to the source files of a backup task follow these steps:

  1. From the Source tab click Files/Folders button
  2. Click Files Mask button.
  3. Choose an inclusion or/and an exclusion mask to apply from the list of masks (click >> button to see this list).
  4. Click Add button to add the mask to the list of applied masks (you can apply more then one mask at the same time).
  5. Click Replace button to replace the current list of applied masks with the new selected mask.

You can also define a searchable mask as your Backup source. When you define searchable mask as source of your Backup, the task scan you system for files defined in the mask. Searchable Mask is a predefined list of file extensions that can be used as reference in scanning process.

In this way, you can for example backup all you music files from your PC.

To select a searchable mask as source of a Backup task follow these steps:

  1. From the Source tab click Files/Folders button.
  2. From Select files and folders window select searchable mask you want to backup.
  3. You can select any files and folders, then click OK.
