If you are splitting files that you want to restore on Win 3.1 or DOS then you may want to select this option. Quick Split can generate split file names that are 8.3 compliant and when you restore the file on Win3.1 or DOS, the restored filename will also be 8.3 compliant.

Quick Split can also automatically remove the split pieces as the file is being restored.
