Tag Lists and Playlists

Saving Tag Lists (.csv, .doc, .htm, .txt, .xls, .xml)

Access: Menu > View > Save Taglist as > CSV,DOC,HTM,TXT,XLS, or XML <Ctrl+1> through <Ctrl+6>

Tag data displayed in the Main Editor can be saved in any of six possible file formats, available at Main Menu > File > Save tag list as…, or via the Editor Toolbar:

  • CSV Format <Ctrl+1> Saves tag data to a symbol or character-delimited file (file extension ".csv").
  • DOC Format <Ctrl+2>* Saves tag data to an MS Word document (file extension ".doc").
  • HTM Format <Ctrl+3> Saves tag data to hypertext markup document (file extension ".htm").
  • TXT Format <Ctrl+4> Saves tag data to an ASCII text file (file extension ".txt").
  • XLS Format <Ctrl+5>* Saves tag data to an MS Excel document (file extension ".xls").
  • XML Format <Ctrl+6> Saves tag data to a v1.0 XML file (file extension ".xml").

Individual tag field columns are selected for inclusion in a list by checking their respective checkboxes in the "Include" section of the Save Dialog. If no rows are highlighted, files generated will include data for all tags listed in the Main Editor. If rows are selected, just data from selected rows are included. To create lists in a particular order, click on a column header to sort the Editor alphabetically on the data in that column, or use the Indexed Sort function on the Sort Tab to sort on multiple columns consecutively. To "fine tune" a sort order, any individual file can be dragged to another row in the Main Editor by holding the Control Key depressed while dragging its row number (first column) to another location. File extensions are generated automatically by the program.

Saving Playlists (.m3u)

Access: Menu > View > Save Playlist with > Relative Path/Absolute Path <Ctrl+7> or <Ctrl+8>, Path or Pathtoolbar buttons popup menus in Browser and Main Editors.

File lists displayed in the Main Editor can be saved as a WinAMP*-style playlist (file extension ".m3u"). This function is available at Menu > File > Save playlist as..., from the Editor's file-column popup menu, or from the Browser's popup menu:

Save Playlist with. . . --> Relative Path <Ctrl+7> Creates a playlist containing only the names of the files themselves. The path to each file's location is not included in the list. This type of playlist must be placed in the same folder in which the files themselves reside, in order for WinAMP or other player to be able to find them. This selection is only made available if all files to be listed have the same path. The initial path presented for saving this type of list is always the path at which the listed files themselves are found.

Save Playlist with. . . --> Absolute Path <Ctrl+8> Creates playlists containing both file names and file locations. This type of playlist contains full paths to each file and can be placed in any folder and WinAMP* or other supporting program will be able to find them. The initial path presented for saving this type of list is governed by the Output Folder setting in Preferences.

Playlists will include all file names listed in the Main Editor if no rows are selected, or just files in selected rows if one or more rows are highlighted. Rough names for Playlists are auto-generated based upon the option setting Playlist Auto Name in Preferences. These can be overwritten with names of your own choosing. File extensions are generated automatically by the program.

Printing Tag Lists

Access: Menu > View > Print Settings <Ctrl+L>, Menu > View > Print Preview <Ctrl+U>, Menu > View > Print Tags <Ctrl+Alt+P>

Standard WYSIWIG formatting controls are available at Menu > File > Print Settings for formatting printed tag lists. Individual tag fields (columns) can be included or excluded for printing on the Fields Tab in this dialog. The Print Settings dialog box contains a Mini-Preview Window on the right, for coarse observations of the effects of format changes, as they are made (if "Auto-update previews" is enabled in the "Options" section). For a more detailed preview, click the Preview Button, or exit the Print Settings dialog and choose Menu > File > Print Preview, to see how the tag list will actually look when printed. To print a list, you can 1) click the Print button in the Print Settings dialog, 2) click the Print button on the Preview Window when displayed, or 3) choose Menu > File > Print Tags after exiting the Print Settings dialog.

If specific files have not been selected (highlighted) in the Main Editor, a list is created using data from all files shown in the Editor; otherwise, only selected files are included in a Print Preview, or Printed list.
