Preferences
Access: Menu > File > Preferences, <Ctrl+P>
Note: Many preference changes are not retained between sessions in the unregistered program.
Use the Preferences section to inform the program of how you want it to behave in situations where options are available.

Misc Output Folder
Enter a fully-qualified default path for saving playlists, images, tag lists, etc. created by the program. Alternatively, click the Browse Button to select a path from a mini-browser. The path shown here is presented by each file "Save Dialog" whenever there is no previous file-save history for that particular dialog in the current session. Otherwise, each Dialog returns to the last folder in which it last saved a file. If you prefer, you can have Tag Clinic reset all path-history buffers to the current folder each time you browse to a different folder, by checking the "Path follows active folder" checkbox. When checked, the Output Folder text box becomes read-only and the default output path changes to the current folder. It will continue to change to the current folder each time you browse to a new location, and will reset all path-history buffers each time. An exception to this behavior occurs when creating Relative Playlists using the context popup menu in the File Window . The initial path presented for this function is always the active folder.
Rename Root Folder
Enter a fully-qualified default path to use as the root folder for saving files renamed from a template where a renaming results in one or more files being moved to another location (a "Directory Restructuring" rename - see section "Add Backslash" in topic "Auto-Renaming Files "). All subfolders either used or created to route renamed files are made to fall directly beneath the root folder specified here. Alternatively, check option "Path follows active folder" to use each file's original path as the root folder below which any subfolders are either created or used, and into which files are subsequently moved. This option applies only to renames that involve Directory Restructuring; it does not apply to files that undergo a simple rename-in-place and thus remain in their original location after being renamed.
Editor Auto-Advance
Down: Hitting the Enter key after a cell edit advances editing to the next cell field beneath the current one being edited in the Main Editor.
Right: Hitting the Enter key after a cell edit advances editing to the next cell to the right of the current one being edited in the Main Editor.
None: Hitting the Enter key after a cell edit does not advance editing to another cell in the Main Editor. The next cell for editing must be chosen by mouse click, Arrow Key advance, or Tab Key advance.
Sub-Editor Access Method
Button: Sub-editors, such as the Comment, Miscellaneous, User Text, Origins Detail, Commercial, URL, and Lyrics editors, are executed by clicking a small "ellipse" button that appears on the right in respective cells when they are selected in the Main Editor.
Dbl-Click: Comment and other sub-editors are executed by double-clicking the mouse in respective cells in the Main Editor.
Either: Sub-editors can be executed by using either of the two methods above. In this mode, a single click is used to enter a cell, then either a double-click or a click on an ellipse button executes the editor.
Place Single-Tag Popup tools on ...
Choose the location for placement of auto-editing tools (e.g. Capitalize, All Upper, All Lower, Space to '_', etc.) on the Single-Tag Popup Menu.
Main level: Tools are always visible and available for use at the top level of the context popup menu as soon as it appears.
Submenu: Tools are placed on a separate submenu called "Tools." You must click the "Tools" menu selection on the main top level to be presented with the choice of tools to apply to cell text.
Clicking picture column executes ...
Choose the image browser you would like to run when the "Pic" column is clicked on Main Editor page 2: either the main Picture Viewer or the Thumbnail Browser (either can be selected at any time via context menu popup).
Orchestra/Band/Artist Album column ...
Tag field TPE2 in MP3's is referred to by different names by different applications. In the technical specs it is listed as the "orchestra/band/accompaniment" field, but it is often referred to and used as an "Album Artist" field. You can set a preference here.
Header: Choose the text to be used for the Editor's column header for this field, either "Orch/Band" or "Album Artist."
Show Artist if no Album Artist: Check to have the contents of the "Artist" field (TPE1) duplicated into the "Orch/Band"/"Album Artist" column (TPE2) when there is no data found for this field in the tag.
iTunes uses the "Subtitle" field as a "Description" field in that program, and labels its column accordingly. Although there is no setting for it in Preferences, Tag Clinic can be made to label its "Subtitle" column as the "Description" column, if desired, by manually altering a setting in its initialization file, "TagClinic.ini," found in the install folder. After loading this file into a text editor, search for entry "HdrDescription=0" and change it to read "HdrDescription=1".
Quickload
Enable: Engages Tag Clinic's "Quickload" data system. Tag data for each folder may be stored in and loaded from a "Quickload" data file each time a folder is selected, rather than re-reading all tags each time. When Quickloading a folder view (Main Menu > File > Quickload, or <Alt - Q>), any files listed in a Quickload file that are no longer found in a folder are automatically excluded from view. Depending upon whether Folder Scanning is enabled at the time a view is created, either of two types of Quickload files are made: one type that lists files in the current folder only, and another that includes files in subfolders. When loading a Quickview, the program will always try first to find a Quickload file that corresponds to the current state of the Folder Scanning option, then look for the other if it is not found. If neither is found, tags are read in lieu of Quickloading. Quickload files are stored in the folder from which the view is created, and are named "TC435data.qlf" for local, folder-only views, and "TC435Rdata.qlf" for views that include the local folder plus subfolders.
Auto Update: When enabled, the program automatically updates a folder's Quickload Data File (or creates one if it does not exist) when the current folder or the program is exited, if it is detected that a change has been made to one or more files in the current view. You can manually update or create a view for the current folder at any time by selecting Main Menu > File > Update Quickload File (<Alt + W>), or, if Quickload is enabled, by clicking on the red "X" or green "check mark" indicator on the right side of the Browser Toolbar. When the Editor Toolbar is in view on the top panel, you can also create or update a Quickload file by clicking the speed button.
Validate: If enabled, a search for files not listed in a folder's Quickload File is made after the Quickload itself is performed. When new files are found, they are added to the qickloaded view by having their tags read. This procedure is only preformed if after the Quickload the count of files listed in the Main Editor is found to be less than the count of files that are actually available for listing.
