Tags at version ID3v2.4 are unsynchronized on a frame by frame basis, as needed, whereas all frames in ID3v2.3 tags have unsynchronization applied (see heading Unsynchronization in topic Preferences for further information about Unsynchronization). Only tags at version ID3v2.4 support the "Musicians Credits" list (shown in Editor 2 in column "Musicians"), where tags at version ID3v2.3 do not. Be aware also that, as of the time of this writing, few tag editors and other applications that edit or use ID3v2 tags support the newer ID3v2.4 tag standard. Thus, tags converted to this standard will not be usable in some programs.

Access: Menu > ID3v2 > Convert ID3v2.4 to ID3v2.3, <Alt+F4>, Editor Toolbar button Speedbutton Toolbar

Converts the ID3v2.3 tags in all or just selected files from tag version ID3v2.4 to tag version ID3v2.3. If specific files (rows) are selected in the Main Editor, then only those files are converted. If no files are selected, it is assumed that all v2.4 files are to be converted.

See heading Convert ID3v2.3 to ID3v2.4 above for important information about some of the differences between these two ID3v2 tag versions.

Convert MusicMatch to Media Jukebox

Access: Menu > ID3v2 > Convert MusicMatch to Media Jukebox - or - <Alt+F9>

MusicMatch stores its Tempo, Mood, Situation, Preference, Bio, and other data in standard Comment frames, with specific text in the description fields to identify them. Media Jukebox, on the other hand, creates two non-standard frames not defined by the ID3v2 Technical Specification in which to store similar user-defined information. MJB "Notes" are stored in one custom-made frame, while Custom 1, Custom 2, Custom 3, Rating, Volume, and other data are stored in still another. Use this conversion option to move data from MusicMatch Bio, Tempo, Mood, Situation, and Preference comment frames over to new or existing Media Jukebox Notes, Custom 1, Custom 2, Custom 3, and Rating fields, respectively.

Conversions are applied to all selected ID3v2 tags, if one or more rows are selected in the Editor, or to all rows if there are no rows selected.

By default, MusicMatch frames are removed from the tag after conversion to Media Jukebox frames. You can prevent removal of these frames, however, by unchecking the "Remove converted MusicMatch and MJB frames" option on Preferences Behavior tab). Conversions can be terminated mid-process at any time by clicking anywhere on the Editor.

Convert Media Jukebox to MusicMatch

Access: Menu > ID3v2 > Convert Media Jukebox to MusicMatch, <Alt+F11>

MusicMatch stores its Tempo, Mood, Situation, Preference, Bio, and other data in standard Comment frames, with specific text in the description fields to identify them. Media Jukebox, on the other hand, creates two non-standard frames not defined by the ID3v2 Technical Specification in which to store similar user-defined information. MJB "Notes" are stored in one custom-made frame, while Custom 1, Custom 2, Custom 3, Rating, Volume, and other data are stored in still another. Use this conversion option to move data from the MJB Notes, Custom 1, Custom 2, Custom 3, and Rating fields into new or existing MusicMatch Bio, Tempo, Mood, Situation, and Preference fields, respectively.

* or Comment frame, if Media Jukebox Custom 1, Custom 2,

or Custom 3 text is not a valid MusicMatch Tempo, Mood, or

Situation, respectively.

Ratings are converted to Preferences as follows:

When a corresponding MusicMatch frame already exists in a file, it is overwritten with Media Jukebox data, with user consent, otherwise a new MusicMatch frame is created in which to place the data. If text is found in a Media Jukebox Custom1, Custom 2 or Custom 3 field that does not match a corresponding MusicMatch Tempo, Mood, or Situation predefined value, the user is given the option of having this data placed into a new standard ID3v2 Comment frame instead. In general, only the data of interest is removed from Media Jukebox tag frames after conversion. Any other information present in these frames is left intact, and the frames themselves are left in the tag. The MJB "Notes" frame is an exception to this general rule, however. Media Jukebox "Notes" have their own dedicated frame which stores no other information other than the Note. By default, this frame is removed from the tag after conversion to a MusicMatch "Bio" frame. You can prevent removal of this frame, however, by unchecking the "Remove converted MusicMatch and MJB frames" option on Preferences Behavior tab).

Conversions are applied to all selected ID3v2 tags, if one or more rows are selected in the Editor, or to all rows if there are no rows selected.

Rating to MusicMatch Rating

Access: Menu > ID3v2 > Rating to MusicMatch Rating, <Ctrl+Alt+1>

Converts MP3 Popularimeter ratings (range 1-255) and/or M4A/MP4 ratings (range 1-100) into MusicMatch ratings (range 1-5), and stores them in the MusicMatch Rating field (column heading "MM Rating"). All ratings are shown in the Editor as one- to five-star ratings ("*" to "* * * * *"). Number ranges refer to the values stored internally in specific tag types to represent these ratings. Operates on all or just selected files.

Some background information about ratings:

In MP3's, rating information is stored in one of three sub-fields enclosed by the ID3v2 Popularimeter frame (which also houses an email address and a playcount). Program MusicMatch creates a rating frame from an ordinary Comment frame, giving it a unique description field ("MusicMatch_Preference") so that it can be distinguished from other Comment frames. In M4A's and MP4's, Apple has pre-defined a rating field with an atom identifier of "rtng," which is where Tag Clinic stores rating information for these file types. Unfortunately, program iTunes does not store its own rating information there (or in any other tag field), but instead has chosen to store it in a separate, proprietary database file (thus, don't expect the ratings created in Tag Clinic or any other tagging program to show up in iTunes). Program Tag & Rename defines its own rating atom for M4A's and MP4's which it identifies as "rati." Tag Clinic will look for a rating in this field if it can't find one in the iTunes "rtng" field, and show it if found. In addition, when it will also place a copy of any rating it puts into the "rtng" field into the "rati" field as well.

MusicMatch Rating to Rating

Access: Menu > ID3v2 > MusicMatch Rating to Rating, <Ctrl+Alt+2>

All ratings are shown in the Editor as one- to five-star ratings. Number ranges refer to the values stored internally in specific tag types to represent these ratings. Operates on all or just selected files.
