Browser Toolbar

From left to right:

Tree Size: Calculates and displays the size of the current folder branch. Include the current folder and subfolders.

New Folder: Appends a new subfolder directly beneath the current folder.

Up One Level: Navigates to the parent folder of the current folder.

Previous Folder: Navigates to the last folder visited before the current folder.

Toggle Quickload Mode: Turns Quickload Mode ON or OFF. When OFF, the program creates data views by reading all tags in a folder, each time it's selected. When ON, data views are loaded from a Quickload Data File ("TC4XXdata.qlf," where "XX" will be version numbers), if one is present in the folder. If not found, data views are created as if Quickload were not on, by re-reading all tags. This button is synchronized with the Quickload "Enable" checkbox on the Preferences panel; toggling one will toggle the other. You can create a Quickload Data File in the current folder at any time (or update one that is already there) by 1) choosing "Update Quickload File" in the Main Menu's File section, 2) using its shortcut sequence <Alt+W>, or by 3) clicking the button on the right side of the panel when present. If the Editor Toolbar is in view, you can create a Quickload file by clicking the speed button with a big red "Q" with a "+" inside. Alternatively, you can have the program create and update Quickload Data Files for you whenever the program detects that a change has been made to the current data view. See heading Quickload > Auto Update in Preferences.

When a Quickload File is used to restore a folder's data view in lieu of reading tags, any files found listed in the Quickload list that are no longer in the folder itself are automatically excluded from the current view. If at the end of the Quickload process there are fewer files listed in the Main Editor than are available for editing, a search is done for new files that need to be added to the view (if Quickload > Validate is enabled in Preferences). When new files are found, they are added to the list by having their actual tags read.

In addition to restoring tag data, Quickloading also restores the File Mask setting on the Center Toolbar and the Scanning setting on the Browser Toolbar to the state they were in when the Quickload File was created.

Delete: Deletes the current file or folder. If one or more files are selected in the File List Window, the delete request is assumed to apply to files selected. If no files are selected, it is assumed that the folder itself (and all of its subfolders) is to be deleted. Confirmations for file deletes can be enabled or disabled in Preferences . Confirmations are always requested for folder removals.

Match Selections/File Finder: After selecting files in the Browser, click this button to have the same files selected in the Main Editor. Similarly, after selecting files in the Main Editor, click to select the same files in the Browser.

Select All: Selects all supported file types in the current folder for a Cut, Copy, or other operation. Include other types of files manually by holding the control key depressed while left-clicking them individually with the mouse.

Cut: Press to mark selected files for moving to another location with a subsequent Paste operation. Files moved to another folder can be restored to their original location by clicking the Undo button on the Center Toolbar .

Copy: Copies the selected file or folders to allow them to be pasted into another folder with a subsequent Paste command.

Paste: Installs Cut or Copied files or folders into the current folder.

Refresh Refresh or Stop Stop: The Refresh button reloads the current folders and refreshes all views and lists. While counting files, loading files, quickloading files, and performing multi-file edit operations the button's icon changes to a "Stop" symbol, which can be pressed to pause or terminate an operation. Most types of multi-file operations can also be paused or canceled by clicking anywhere on the surface of the Main Editor, or on the file list on the Rename Page, while an operation is in progress. Response times to cancellation clicks can vary widely, however, depending upon the type of operation being performed, the type of tag being operated upon, and the type of media upon which files reside. Internally, checks for cancellations may be performed as often as after each file is processed, or it may be done after as many as 30 files are processed, depending upon the type of operation being performed. Response times may seem almost instantaneous when working with a fast internal hard drive, while may seem interminable when working with files on slower removable media, or on a network drive.

Check or Remove: When a green checkmark appears on this button the data shown in the Main Editor is known to match the data contained in the Quickload file for the current folder. The presence of this checkmark does not necessarily indicate, however, that the Editor list matches the tag data itself, as this can only be assured if "Auto Update" is enabled in the Quickload section of Preferences. When the button contains an "X," the equivalency between the edit list data and Quickload file text is unknown, and the Quickload text may or may not match the current Editor views as shown. To update or create a Quickload file, click the checkmark or "X," do <Alt+Q>, or choose "Update Quickload File" at Main Menu > File.

Folder Scanning enable/disable Scan or Folder: Click to enable or disable subfolder scanning while loading tags. When scanning is disabled, only files in the current folder are loaded into the Editors for viewing and editing. When enabled, files in the current folder plus all files in subfolders are loaded. If "Auto-refresh after scanning enabled/disabled" is checked in the Behavior section of Preferences, the view is automatically refreshed when this setting is changed, otherwise it is updated when a move to another folder is made, or the view is manually refreshed (see above). When "Auto-Refresh" is enabled, the view is refreshed from a Quickload data file, if one is present in the current folder and Quickload is enabled, otherwise it is refreshed by re-reading tags.

Toolbar Toggle Pad Toggle Pad: Top horizontal button toggles the visibility of the three Editor toolbars (Tag Type, Separator, and Speedbutton Toolbars) between "all toolbars off" and last configuration in which a toolbar was visible. The three numbered buttons beneath the horizontal button toggle each of the three toolbars on or off separately.

Show folders: When checked, the names of all subfolders beneath the current folder are included in the view presented in the File Window. If unchecked, only files in the current folder are shown, thus leaving more room for filenames.

File names only: Check to show only the filename column in the File Window.
