Types of Scans
STOPzilla can perform four types of Spyware scans: The Quick Scan, Intelligent Scan, Full Scan, and Custom Scan. Each examines particular areas of your system:
The default scan is the Full Scan. The Intelligent Scan examines areas chosen by STOPzilla’s research team for infection analysis, based upon in-depth studies of Spyware behavior, and is faster than the Full Scan, which examines every file and registry entry in your system. For more information about the areas examined by scan type, please see: Scan Comparisons and Custom Scans.
Scans can be performed manually, any time you wish, or automatically according to a schedule you set. For detailed information on automatic scanning.
To perform a Spyware scan manually:
- From the navigation bar, select SCAN FOR SPYWARE.
- Use the control buttons to select the type of scan you wish to perform and click START SCAN NOW.
- You can click on the Results tab within the illustration below to view the contents of that tab.

Custom Scans
When you opt to perform a Custom Scan, the system displays a directory tree structure representing all areas of your computer. You can select or skip specific directories. Click the plus sign () on a closed directory to see sub-directories within it. By default, all directories are selected (checked). Clear (uncheck) the boxes representing the directories you DO NOT want to scan.
Additional options (selected by default) can be omitted from the scan by clearing (unchecking) the associated box. These include:
- Scan Processes
- Scan Restore Points
- Scan Services
- Scan Drivers
- Scan Registry
- Scan Network Components
- Scan Cookies
