Settings

This tab consists of four group boxes that enable you to configure how the Spyware scanner will operate and the actions STOPzilla will take with infections that the scanner has detected. You can click on the Summary, Active Enforcers, and Quarantine tabs within the illustration below to view the contents of each tab.

Settings

Infection Response

The Infection Response group box enables you to indicate how you would like STOPzilla to respond when it detects an infection.

undelete memory stick freeware usb deleted files recovery free file recovery
download drive recovery software disk restore ipod restore
download hard drive recovery software MS Access to MySQL Converter barcode image creator

To configure infection response:

  • In the navigation bar on the left side of the STOPzilla Home console, click REAL-TIME PROTECTION. In the REAL-TIME PROTECTION dialog, click the Settings tab.
  • In the Infection response group box, select (check) Alert me immediately when an infection is detected if you want STOPzilla to display an alert in real time each time it detects an infection. If you disable this feature, STOPzilla will continue to detect infections.

Scanner Settings

To configure the Spyware scanner:

In the navigation bar on the left side of the STOPzilla Home console, click REAL-TIME PROTECTION. In the REAL-TIME PROTECTION dialog, click the Settings tab.

In the Scanner Settings group box use the drop-down list to set the Scan Priority. Scan priority indicates the amount of your computer's processing power you wish to allot to the scan. Options are High, Normal, and Low. If you select High, the scan will go fastest, but will use up a lot of your processing power. If you are using other applications while the scan is in progress, these applications will run more slowly. It is recommended that you set the scan for High if you have scheduled scans during times when you are not using your computer. If you wish to scan while running multiple applications, it is recommended that you select Low. For typical use, the default setting of Normal is a good balance between scan speed and use of computer resources.

  • Select (check) Scan archive files for Spyware if you wish to scan files in compressed formats, such as .ZIP, .CAB, and .MSI files.
  • Select (check) Repair infected archive files if you wish STOPzilla to attempt to repair compressed files and then reconstruct them within their containers. If STOPzilla is unable to repair a compressed file, you will be prompted to leave the file or delete it. If you delete the file, you must delete the entire container. Although you may want to keep some of the files in the container, it is recommended that you delete the container in the interest of safety.

Detection Settings

Allowing Infections

Occasionally, STOPzilla blocks material deemed questionable that the user opts to receive. By default, STOPzilla does not allow infections. If you wish to allow a particular application or URL, you must first change the default setting to allow infections.

To allow infections:

In the navigation bar on the left side of the STOPzilla Home console, click REAL-TIME PROTECTION. In the REAL-TIME PROTECTION dialog, click the Settings tab.

In the Detection Settings group box, select (check) User can allow infections.

Show Infections on Startup

By default, every time you start your computer, STOPzilla alerts you of any infections it has detected. If you do not wish to see these alerts, you can disable this feature. Disabling this feature prevents alerts from being displayed. It does not prevent STOPzilla from detecting infections as soon as you start your computer.

To Show/Hide infections on startup:

  • In the navigation bar on the left side of the STOPzilla Home console, click REAL-TIME PROTECTION. In the REAL-TIME PROTECTION dialog, click the SETTINGS tab.
  • In the Detection Settings group box, select (check) Show infections on startup to see the alerts, or clear (unselect) the check box if you prefer not to see alerts.

Disable Commercial Keyloggers

When enabled, this setting detects commercial keyloggers. Although keylogging is a common Spyware technique used by hackers, a commercial keylogger is monitoring software installed on your computer that is not technically Spyware. Commercial keyloggers can be used for parental control, employee monitoring, or law enforcement. The default setting for this parameter is Disabled. That is, STOPzilla does not automatically detect legitimate commercial keyloggers.

To Detect Commercial Keyloggers:

In the navigation bar on the left side of the STOPzilla Home console, click REAL-TIME PROTECTION. In the REAL-TIME PROTECTION dialog, click the SETTINGS tab.

In the Detection Settings group box, select (check) Detect Commercial keyloggers to enable this feaure.

Quarantined Element Purging

"Quarantine" is a process whereby STOPzilla isolates detected infections in an area of your computer it creates for this purpose. When a known or potentially malicious application attempts to access your computer, STOPzilla detects it, blocks it, and quarantines it until you decide if you wish to remove it. You can set up a schedule by which quarantined infections are removed from your system automatically.

To set up quarantined element purging:

  • In the navigation bar on the left side of the STOPzilla Home console, click REAL-TIME PROTECTION. In the REAL-TIME PROTECTION dialog, click the SETTINGS tab.
  • In the Quarantined Element Purging group box, ensure that Enable automatic element purging is selected (checked.)
  • Use the drop-down lists to schedule the purge.
  • Click OK to keep the existing settings. Click APPLY to save your new settings. Click CANCEL to revert the system to the previous settings.
